Description: The so-called Information Society is founded on information and communication technologies (ICT). A wide variety of people use ICT to create, distribute, consume and manipulate information in a daily basis. Although there are experts skilled in security issues, most ICT users have not got a vast knowledge and understanding of the risks that a wrong employment of ICT might imply. Notwithstanding, it is not apparent how to measure the actual level of awareness of the users and their computer security skills. With the aim to address this problem, we propose a framework to assess the computer security skills of ICT users. First, we identify a set of assessment areas to consider. Second, we define the indicators that allow the computation of area indexes with which we can value the computer security skills of ICT users. Our proposal has been tested in practice and we present the study and the obtained results. Thanks to the proposed framework, it is possible to gather precise information about the security understanding of people. As a result of this knowledge, specific actions could be taken on the analysed subjects. Thus, we provide a comprehensive analysis tool for IT managers, CTO and e-Government experts interested in improving the computer security skills of their staffs within their departments, companies and administrations.

Description: Cities are steadily growing and the process of urbanisation is prevalent worldwide. With the aim to provide citizens with a better place to live, a new concept of city was born: the Smart City. This concept has gained much attention and many “regular” cities are taking action so as to become “smart”. To do so, cities are deploying and using information and communication technologies, with the aim of tackling many local problems from local economy and transportation to quality of life and e-governance. In this article we recall the concept of smart city and its main areas of interest. We discuss that the ubiquitous use of information and communication technologies within the context of a smart city might lead to the transparent gathering of private data from citizens. We focus on the transportation area and, more specifically, on the parking problems that might arise in big cities. We propose a set of procedures, based on privacy enhancing technologies, that allow the private, secure and efficient management of parking in smart cities. The main goal of this article is to foster discussion about the privacy issues that might arise in a smart city and to provide an example scenario (ie public parking) to demonstrate some interesting ideas and show some open problems.

Description: Information and communication technologies (ICT) bring a whole new dimension into the healthcare arena by introducing electronic media that open the door to the use of new methodologies. Today, ICT support electronic gathering, storage, processing, and exchange of information to treat disease, prevent illness, promote healthy lifestyle, manage patients with chronic illness, and many other applications [1, 2]. Electronic health (eHealth) has the ability to bridge gaps between patients and doctors, patients and relatives, doctors and administrative staff, and so on. Also, eHealth helps to overcome barriers by means that are significantly different from traditional healthcare solutions [3]. It has paved the way for the adoption of sophisticated forms of healthcare provision based on mobile devices and context-awareness, such as mobile health (mHealth)[4] and smart health (sHealth)[5], which require unprecedentedly complex integration strategies. e advances in healthcare and ICT serve the society as a whole (eg, patients, healthcare professionals, relatives, and governments) and support the sustainability of healthcare systems. New health ICT systems offer opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare services through innovative approaches in clinical service delivery, personalized health, and public health, with a wide impact on the well-being of individuals. Clearly, the study of the integration of healthcare solutions based on ICT is a hot topic that deserves attention.

Description: The new era of mobile health ushered in by the wide adoption of ubiquitous computing and mobile communications has brought opportunities for governments and companies to rethink their concept of healthcare. Simultaneously, the worldwide urbanization process represents a formidable challenge and attracts attention toward cities that are expected to gather higher populations and provide citizens with services in an efficient and human manner. These two trends have led to the appearance of mobile health and smart cities. In this article we introduce the new concept of smart health, which is the context-aware complement of mobile health within smart cities. We provide an overview of the main fields of knowledge that are involved in the process of building this new concept. Additionally, we discuss the main challenges and opportunities that s-Health would imply and provide a common ground for further research.
