LOST Project

January 2011 a December 2011

The population of the richest countries tends to age. Life expectancy gets longer and increases cognitive age-related diseases like Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Patients, who are initially usually autonomous, may have disorientation problems and lose themselves. Therefore they require caregivers, limiting their privacy and freedom. It would be desirable to have tools to substitute for caregivers during the early stages of the disease. We headed to a mass audience. People with cognitive disabilities: Alzheimer's, other forms of dementia, and groups whose members may be lost or disoriented (thus risking their physical integrity). Considering dementia are diagnosed each year 10 to 15 new cases per thousand inhabitants (over 500,000 a year in Spain). On the other hand, there are more than 60 million Alzheimer's patients worldwide. Many of them could benefit from our project.
